Thomas Gooding: Bassist and Son of Cuba Gooding Sr.

Most name searches for Thomas Gooding land on a working bassist who keeps a low profile. That is the person this page covers. Two encyclopedia entries anchor the identification. One names him as the musician Tommy Gooding. The other names his brother Thomas. They describe the same man.

Who is Thomas Gooding?

Thomas Gooding is an American bass guitarist and musical director. He is the son of soul singer Cuba Gooding Sr. He is the half-brother of actor Cuba Gooding Jr. His work sits behind the public name rather than in front of it. He reads music on sight, plays bass, and has worked as a band director. Beyond those basics, the public record is thin.

Every row comes from a source that names him directly. The final row is the one to read twice.

Is Thomas Gooding the same person as Tommy Gooding?

Yes, and two Wikipedia entries settle it. The Cuba Gooding Sr. article states he "was also father to musician Tommy Gooding from a previous relationship". The Cuba Gooding Jr. article lists three siblings for the actor, naming April, Omar and Thomas.

A father naming a son and a son naming a sibling cannot be pointing at two different children. The musician son of Cuba Sr. is the brother Cuba Jr. records as Thomas. So Tommy Gooding and Thomas Gooding are one person, and the two spellings send searchers to separate pages describing him.

What does Cuba Gooding Sr.'s entry record?

It records four children in total. Cuba Sr. and his wife, singer Shirley Gooding, had three children: Cuba Gooding Jr., Omar Gooding and April Gooding. Thomas is named separately, as a son from a previous relationship.

The entry gives no birth date, no birthplace and no career detail for him. It names him and calls him a musician. That is the whole encyclopaedic record for Thomas Gooding. It is worth holding onto before reading any longer profile about him.

There is no Wikipedia article for Tommy Gooding, and none for Thomas Gooding either. Anyone landing on this name has to assemble the identification from other people's family pages. That is why so many thin profiles exist.

What instrument does Thomas Gooding play?

The bass guitar. His Instagram account, @tgoodingbass, carries the display name Thomas Gooding and describes him as a bass artist and sideman for hire. A LinkedIn profile for Thomas Gooding lists him as a bass guitarist, composer and producer at Goodbrown Music. A Facebook profile lists him as a musician in Yonkers, New York.

Those profiles converge on the same details. Two of them name Five Towns College. That convergence is what separates them from the invented detail circulating elsewhere under the same name.

Did Thomas Gooding direct his father's band?

A biography aggregator credits him with directing his father's band, and lists work with groups called Circular Time, GQ and JJ Sansavarino. Those band names appear nowhere except on celebrity biography sites.

No union record, concert listing or newspaper article confirms any of it. The direction credit and the three band names rest on a single unsourced mention. Read them as a claim rather than a settled fact. The pattern is common in profiles of well-connected musicians, and it is worth naming plainly.

Where did Thomas Gooding study music?

Five Towns College, in Dix Hills, New York. The LinkedIn profile and the Facebook profile both name the college. That makes it the strongest repeated education detail attached to his name.

A competitor profile instead lists his schooling as professional music training and fine arts studies. No institution is named there, and no document supports it. Compare the two entries. One names a real Long Island college. The other names a category. That gap is the whole quality difference between the sources.

Who was Cuba Gooding Sr.?

Cuba Mark Gooding Sr. was an American soul singer. Wikipedia gives his dates as April 27, 1944 to April 20, 2017. He was born in Harlem and died in Woodland Hills, California, aged seventy-two.

He was best known as lead singer of The Main Ingredient. That group recorded Everybody Plays the Fool and Just Don't Want to Be Lonely. He also cut two solo albums on Motown and returned to the group in 1980.

His singing career is the reason a bassist in New York carries the surname. Thomas Gooding did not build his own public profile the way his father did. The link runs almost entirely through the family record.

Who are Thomas Gooding's siblings?

Three half-siblings: Cuba Gooding Jr., Omar Gooding and April Gooding. Cuba Jr. won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Jerry Maguire in 1996. Omar Gooding is an actor. April Gooding is an actress.

Thomas Gooding is the only one of the four who built a career behind an instrument. The family name is famous for screen work. His own work has stayed off screen, which shapes how little of it reaches search results.

Where does Thomas Gooding live and work?

The professional profiles place him in New York State. The Facebook profile lists Yonkers. The Instagram account lists the Bronx. A musician booking directory also carries a Thomas Gooding listing for New York, United States, charging from five hundred dollars.

That directory entry reads as a self-submitted biography, and nothing in it mentions Cuba Gooding. Whether it belongs to the same bassist is unconfirmed, so it is set aside here. The LinkedIn and Facebook profiles place Thomas Gooding in Yonkers with a music company, which is the stronger position.

How old is Thomas Gooding, and what is his net worth?

No verified age figure exists in a source I could open. No net worth figure exists at all. I found none, and I will not estimate one.

One aggregator lists a June 1980 birth date alongside a Bronx birthplace. Both cannot hold. The family moved from the Bronx to Southern California in the 1970s, and Cuba Jr.'s article dates that move to 1972. A child born in 1980 cannot have been born in the Bronx. The details conflict, so neither is repeated here as fact.

What is not verified about Thomas Gooding?

An honest list runs longer than the confirmed one. There is no verified height, weight, net worth, religion or birthplace for Thomas Gooding. There is no birth certificate, no marriage record beyond a single aggregator line, and no named recording credit.

The competitor profile goes further still. It lists a date of birth as United States and an age as adult professional. Those are placeholder values, not information. It also offers a net worth estimated from touring and a family estate. No source supports any of it, and none of it is repeated here.

How did the name confusion start?

Two public spellings, one man. Wikipedia uses Tommy. Cuba Jr.'s own article uses Thomas. His professional accounts use Thomas, and one aggregator uses Tommy. Searchers typing either form land on different pages describing the same bassist.

That split is why the name draws both spellings, and it is why several near-identical profiles exist for Thomas Gooding. None of them add sourcing. The Wikipedia cross-reference is the only link between the two names that holds up under checking.

Why does the surname pull so much interest?

The Gooding name carries weight because of Cuba Jr. He won an Academy Award for Jerry Maguire and drew an Emmy nomination for playing O. J. Simpson. He also took Chicago to the West End and Broadway in 2018.

Cuba Sr. had a documented run of his own. Wikipedia credits him with five top ten hits as lead vocalist of The Main Ingredient. Everybody Plays the Fool in 1972 peaked at number two in the United States and stayed there for three weeks.

Thomas Gooding shares both surnames and none of the public profile. He is connected to that attention by blood rather than by work. That is the honest shape of his public presence, and it explains why biographies about him keep filling the same gaps.

Other musicians' family members covered here are Carlos Alman, Cardi B's father and Vincent Kotchounian, Ray Charles's son.

A further music-linked profile is Ally Lotti, Juice WRLD's girlfriend.

Conclusion

Thomas Gooding is a bass guitarist and musical director from New York State. He is the son of Cuba Gooding Sr. and the half-brother of Cuba Gooding Jr., Omar Gooding and April Gooding. He studied at Five Towns College and works under the name Thomas Gooding.

The documented record for him is genuinely small. Two encyclopedia sentences and a set of professional profiles establish the identity, the instrument and the city. Most of what circulates about Tommy Gooding traces back to unsourced biography pages. His net worth, age, height, birthplace and religion have no verified figures. The band credits that read most specifically are the least supported.
